Higher Degrees by Research

Submission

All Higher Degree by Research applications must be submitted via the UQ Graduate School online application form. Your application will be denied (withdrawn) if you do not follow full procedures and provide all required documents (as listed on the Graduate School website). In addition, the School of Education requires all applicants to include:

1. A brief (2-3 page maximum) research proposal. This proposal should convey that:

• the problem you propose to investigate is significant;
• the method you plan to use is suitable and feasible;
• the results will make an original contribution to knowledge in the field;
• your level of academic writing is of a Higher Degree by Research standard

Please note that the Online Application system will not prompt you to include a proposal, but the School of Education cannot process your application without this.

     2. Email from School of Education academic(s) confirming their endorsement to provide supervision (e.g. Principal Advisor, Associate Advisor).

* Please ensure your research proposal conveys that:

• the problem you propose to investigate is significant
• the method you plan to use is suitable and feasible
• the results will make an original contribution to knowledge in the field
• your level of academic writing is of a Higher Degree by Research standard.

Supervision

When submitting an Online Application, you are required to nominate at least one supervisor, including an email from the School of Education academic, who has confirmed that they will supervise your study should your application be successful. Please note, your application will not be processed without this supporting document.

In addition, please identify at least one more academic who you believe most closely matches your proposed research topic or methodology. Each applicant must have two confirmed supervisors before any HDR application at UQ can proceed. Please refer to the following links:
