Study Plans
Our programs contain professional experience courses, and as such it is extremely important that you follow the recommended study plan, as to not delay the completion of your program. Many of our courses require prerequisites, and these can be found on the UQ programs and courses page. When you search for a specific subject it will show the prerequisite in the left hand column.
Below are the recommended study plans for our Education programs. If at any time you are unable to follow the plan for your specific program, please contact the School of Education as soon as possible. We are here to help you with your program progression and can provide revised study plans to aid in program progression.

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is a four year, full time program.

Please note following changes for first year students:
Dear first year students in the Bachelor of Education (Primary) program,
We write to advise that there will be some changes to the BEd(Prim) program from 2023. These changes are in response to changed accreditation requirements and feedback from current students, recent graduates and principals.
From 2023 the requirement to complete 6 units from one ‘Study Area’ will be removed and the program will include three new required courses in Year 2 and Year 3:
EDUC2770 Supporting Student Behaviour and Wellbeing (Year 2, Semester 1)
EDUC2720 Teaching Early Reading (Year 2, Semester 2)
EDUC3770 Assessment for Learning and Teaching in the Primary Classroom (Year 3, Semester 2)
What this means for you:
It is to your advantage to take the new courses in Year 2 and Year 3 of the program to ensure that you graduate with the most contemporary requirements developed in accordance with revised accreditation requirements.
The School of Education will send updated Program and Course requirements for your second year of study and beyond as soon as these are finalised.
Under the new program requirements, you will not need to choose a course from the ‘Study Areas’ in semester 2 2022.
You will still have 4 units of general elective choice in your program and one of these elective courses can be taken in Year 1, Semester 2. You will be able to choose any courses from across the university that are of interest to you. This could include any of the courses currently listed in the Maths/Numeracy, English/Literacy, HASS and Science Study Areas, or a course in a Language, Music, Psychology or Sports and nutrition, for example. Please see suggested general elective courses under ‘Study Area’ courses in your Program and course requirements, and enrol before Semester 2 in an elective course that is of interest to you: https://my.uq.edu.au/programs-courses/requirements/program/2306/2022
Anyone who has applied for credit towards their program should contact the school for advice: education@uq.edu.au You will then be contacted by the School of Education with an individual study plan designed for you with new courses included, depending on the credit you have already received from your prior study.
Please contact education@uq.edu.au if you have any questions about your options.
Best wishes,
