Welcome to our School

The School of Education acknowledges the precedence and continuity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander custodians of the Australian continent, their contribution to knowledge, and pays our respects to elders, past, present and emerging.

The current UQ School of Education traces its origins to the creation in 1945 of a Department of Education that offered initial teacher education programs and postgraduate research degrees.

Professor Fred J. Schonell was appointed as the first Professor of Education and head of department in 1950.

Education has changed in important and unimaginable ways since then.

The School has changed too, but we are still, as always, seeking to create and share knowledge that will shape policies and practices in the both the local and global education communities.

We're particularly proud to welcome new students into that community. You are joining dynamic education alumni who continue to create change.

Your journey to create change starts here. Thank you for taking your journey with us.
