In 2016, the Australian Government mandated that all undergraduate and postgraduate teacher preparation students must pass the LANTITE (Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students) assessment in order to meet their respective program requirements.

In 2024, AITSL advised that demonstrated First Nations language proficiency is an acceptable alternative standard to LANTITE.    

LANTITE is an assessment used to evaluate the personal literacy and numeracy skills of education students seeking to become teachers. It is designed to ensure graduating teachers are equipped to meet teaching demands.

All students enrolled in the following UQ undergraduate and postgraduate teacher preparation programs are required to successfully complete LANTITE as a program requirement, in order to graduate:

  • Bachelor of Education (Primary)
  • Bachelor of Education (Secondary) dual degree programs
  • Bachelor of Health, Sport and Physical Education (Honours)
  • Master of Teaching (Primary)
  • Master of Teaching (Secondary)
