Professor Robyn Gillies recently spent a week at Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt working with staff at the IDeA Centre – an interdisciplinary research centre with a focus on children’s learning and developmental processes (especially of children at-risk).
The centre brings together scientists from various disciplines who cooperatively investigate children’s learning and developmental processes as well as the perspectives of educators, teachers, parents, and educational policy personnel.
The IDeA Centre incorporates experts from the fields of psychology, educational science, psycholinguistics, neuroscience, sociology, and psychoanalysis. Professor Gillies shared research expertise and delivered a presentation on dialogic teaching and learning.
Inspired by the achievements of the centre’s personnel, Professor Gillies came back to UQ with a wealth of ideas that have the potential to be adapted and implemented at UQ to enhance the wellbeing of students at-risk and the professional development of teachers.
