Researcher biography

Proportional reasoning is a key aspect of numeracy. Arithmetic foundations of proportional reasoning such as multiplicative and fractional thinking are well represented in the Australian Curriculum, however means of developing the underlying concepts are not represented well at all. Through his current reserach project, Dr Geoff Hilton aims to address this imbalance. He hopes that publication of his research findings will give clearer guidance in the teaching and learning of proportional reasoning through a focus on conceptual development, thus enhancing the teaching and learning of numeracy.
