Study Plans
Our programs contain professional experience courses, and as such it is extremely important that you follow the recommended study plan, as to not delay the completion of your program. Many of our courses require prerequisites, and these can be found on the UQ programs and courses page. When you search for a specific subject it will show the prerequisite in the left hand column.
Below are the recommended study plans for our Education programs. If at any time you are unable to follow the plan for your specific program, please contact the School of Education as soon as possible. We are here to help you with your program progression and can provide revised study plans to aid in program progression.
Bachelor of Education (Primary)
The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is a four year, full time program.
The program structure can be found here, or on the UQ programs and courses page. This outlines the recommended study plan for students. Please make sure you select the year you were admitted to the program for the correct course list.
Master of Teaching (Primary)
The Master of Teaching (Primary) is a two year, full time program. It can also be completed in up to four years part time.

Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) is a four year, full time program. It can also be completed part time.
The course list can be found here, or on the UQ programs and courses page. This outlines the required courses within Bachelor of Education Secondary, however, for your specific study plan you will need to refer to your dual degree planner, which can be found on the UQ programs and courses page.
You are required to complete all Part A of the Bachelor of Education Secondary, along with all the requirements of your dual program in order to progress to Parts B, C and/or D (also known as professional year) of the Bachelor of Education Secondary.
Master of Teaching (Secondary)
The Master of Teaching (Secondary) is a two year, full time program. It can also be completed in up to four years part time, however there is a specific enrolment structure that needs to be followed in order to progress through the program.

This outlines the required courses within Master of Teaching Secondary, however the specific enrolment structure is shown in the document below. PLEASE NOTE: You cannot progress through to second year subjects until you have completed all first year subjects.

Professional Year Orientation Program (PYOP) - FINAL Year Students
For FINAL YEAR students only - Dual Degree / BEd Secondary, BEd Primary, MTeach Secondary, MTeach Primary.
If you are eligible to complete your final year in 2024, this is a date claimer for the 2024 Professional Year Orientation Program (PYOP).The PYOP features important program and career information designed to support final year students with enrolment, professional experience, teacher registration, and professional standards and employment. We have guest speakers from Dept of Education, Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) and school Principals, amongst others.
This is an ‘in-person’ event only, there are no plans to livestream or record it. It is an expectation all eligible students attend this important event.
The 2024 PYOP is a full day event, please add this date to your calendar:

8.30am - 3pm (lunch and refreshments will be provided)
Location: Abel Smith Lecture Theatre 23-101
