The Right to Education - Queensland Human Rights Bill 2018

7 March 2019

The Right to Education has been recognised in the Human Rights Bill 2018 that was passed on 27th February, 2019. Academics in the School of Education submitted responses to the draft bill, one in collaboration with UQ’s TC Beirne School of Law.

The impact of the proposed bill on the provision of inclusive education was a consideration of many of the submissions to the Legal Affairs and community Safety Committee.

On 15 February, Dr Rhonda Faragher joined a panel organised by the School of Law to discuss inclusive education implications of the Bill with members of the community. The event was attended by the Deputy Premier, The Honourable Jackie Trad, who joined the panel encouraging community discussion.

With the passing of the Bill and its expected passage into law, the School of Education is underway with planning a forum for principals and other school leaders to assist them to understand new implications with respect to inclusive education.

Further information about the forum can be obtained by emailing r.faragher@uq.edu.au
