Seminar 2: What works when learning with video?
Academic: Kate McLay, Jason Lodge, Huong Nguyen, and Faisal Hakim M Alshammari
Discussant: Stephen Heimans
Description:
Video is used extensively as a learning tool in all educational contexts; however, there is little research to indicate which methods of video design and structure are most effective for learning. Using a mixed methods approach in a web-based environment, this project tested different video styles under controlled conditions to explore whether particular styles are more appropriate for various forms of knowledge (e.g., procedural, conceptual), and whether there is a link between learning outcomes and users’ learner identity and learning preferences.
