The University of Queensland's School of Education invites you to attend the Public Lecture by Alice Schippers and her son, Capser Boot. The lecture titled ‘Special’ Families and their ‘Normal’ Daily Lives will focus on current philosophical and human rights approaches to disability supporting the view that disability is no reason to assume poor quality of life. Their research relates to the experiences of families with both their social environment and the support they receive.

Presenter: Alice Schippers, PhD (interdisciplinary social sciences), worked for twenty years in policy, management, research and higher education in the disabilities field. Currently, she is director of Disability Studies in the Netherlands. She also holds a coordinating senior research position at the Disability Studies unit of the Medical Humanities department of the Amsterdam University medical centre. Her interests are on (family) quality of life, inclusion and collaborative research.
Email address: alice.schippers@disabilitystudies.nl

Presenter: My name is Casper Boot. I live in Amersfoort, The Netherlands. I’m 16 years old and try to attend (secondary) school as much as possible, which is currently not much. Since 2014, I have been guest lecturing at several international programs at universities in Amsterdam and at international conferences in London and Barcelona as an expert by experience on personal, social, and cultural aspects of autism. My ambition for the future is to study zoology, and become a zoologist with a special focus on mammals. My hobbies are gaming (multiplayer gamers with my schoolmates and others), playing the guitar, and long distance hiking.
